Neoclassical Mahogany Sofa With Fluted Columns – 19th Century
A beautiful neoclassical mahogany sofa, rectangular in shape, featuring a simple and balanced design characteristic of the 19th-century fascination with antiquity.
This sofa is distinguished by its straight lines and harmonious proportions. Its front is punctuated by two freestanding columns with fluted shafts, topped with molded capitals and turned knobs. They rest on bulging bases that end in flattened ball feet.
The straight backrest and solid, slightly sloped armrests are accentuated by wide mahogany crossbars, whose mitered joints reinforce the geometric precision of the piece as a whole.
The deep seat, backrest, and armrests are entirely upholstered in a golden-yellow damask fabric featuring a geometric diamond pattern, secured with a row of patinated upholstery tacks. A long, matching cylindrical cushion, placed against the backrest, completes the set.
With its clean lines, fluted column motif, and absence of superfluous ornamentation, this sofa follows the tradition of neoclassical furniture, evoking the Directoire and Empire styles.
A piece with character, both decorative and comfortable, that fits just as well in a classic interior as in a contemporary setting.
