Louis XVI Period Gilt Barometer
A finely carved and gilded wooden barometer-thermometer. At its center, an oculus allows for reading by a pointer and a serpentine index.
Framed by cornucopias, it is surmounted by a pair of doves, symbolizing love and fidelity, crowned with laurels. On each side, a Louis XVI beaded border terminates in two passementerie bands framing an alcohol thermometer.
The mechanism is present on the reverse but requires servicing for optimal use.
