Large Wall Barometer In Gilded Carved Wood With Cornucopias, Louis XVI Style, Barni Joli Paris
Artist: Carcano/ Barni Joli Paris
An ornamental and beautiful 18th-century Louis XVI style giltwood barometer, richly decorated. It is signed Carcano on its lovely painted dial, which features a magnificent compass rose with gold highlights at its center. The dial, along with the beautifully cut hands, contributes to the preciousness of this piece. The top is adorned with a crown-like braid, flanked by two amorous doves, and the sides feature cascading foliage. A curved console surmounts the round, molded dial, where two majestic cornucopias set the tone, as do the cascading pearl necklaces, which are twisted and end in plumes. A simple frame highlights the integrated alcohol thermometer. It is well-painted, and the mercury thermometer mechanism is clearly visible in its recessed housing. A high-quality, well-preserved piece, signed Carcano for the merchant Mercier Barni Joli in Paris. It is a piece from the Tarn region, and indeed, it is a castle piece. A very elegant decorative wall element, preserved over time and in very good condition...
