"Louis XVI Barometer-thermometer"
Parisian medallion-shaped barometer-thermometer. Richly carved and gilded wood. Decorated with garlands, foliage, and ribbons. A row of pearls surrounds the dial. The pediment is openwork with ears of wheat and small flowers. Louis XVI period, last quarter of the 18th century. Minor losses to the original gilding. The blue-faced oculus indicating the different barometric readings is very slightly off-center in relation to the dial. The mechanism on the back is in working order (mercury tube, plunger, and counter-plunger). See my video on Instagram. Signed Magard in Paris. According to Torricelli (1608–1647) and Réaumur (1683–1757). Height: 84 cm. Dial width: 44 cm. Total width: 56 cm.
