Artist: Louis Dage
Description Additional Information Shipping Louis Dage (1935-1957) Art Deco glazed ceramic from the Antony workshop, before 1934 Height: 26 cm Diameter: 21 cm He was born in 1885 in Lille and died in 1963 in Saint-Sever. His career was initially in Northern France (Fives-Lille, Nimy in Belgium, Billancourt, Antony) and then in Saint-Sever. In 1920, he founded the Antony Art Pottery (95), in partnership with Eugène Val, an important member of the ceramics and glassmaking trade association, where he collaborated with: Jean de La Fontinelle (a specialist in animal decoration), André Villien (a vase signed by both men attests to this), and Georges Cassin (between 1936 and 1937 he worked at the Sèvres National Porcelain Manufactory and then at the Boch factory in Belgium). Louis Dage supplied the "Pomone" art workshop of the "Au Bon Marché" department store. He was awarded the title of "Meilleur Ouvrier de France" (Best Craftsman of France) in 1925. Around 1934, he participated in the interior design of the ocean liner Normandie. In 1935, the Antony Art Pottery Company was dissolved. In 1934, Louis Dage took over the Nouvelle Faïencerie de l'Adour in Saint-Sever (40), which he ran until 1963. Production shifted towards neo-samadet, with richer, glossier glazes on highly technical and decorative animal subjects. Adapting to supply shortages during the Second World War, Louis Dage sifted pebbles from the Adour River. His workshop overlooked the river, and he then applied grog to the raw clay before glazing and firing them. These sensitive and skillful pieces highlight Louis Dage's creative force despite the inherent constraints of artistic activity.
