Trained in the early 20th century, Matějů worked mainly in the Mladá Boleslav region, producing sculptures and ceramic pieces. He is best known for his architectural works: he created sculptures and reliefs intended to adorn public buildings in his native region. His style, marked by a mixture of functionality and aesthetics specific to the decorative arts, reflects the evolution of Czechoslovak ceramics in the 20th century. Visible at the Galerie Courcelles Antiquités, at 97 rue de Courcelles, in the 17th arrondissement of Paris.
