Antique Mid-19th Century Papier-mâché Marotte Head
These objects were used to support the headdresses when they were not being worn, so that they remained well ironed and kept their shape.
We can date our marotte thanks to the shape of the bun, which is very pronounced at the back of the head: 1845/1850.
We have been fortunate enough to own several marottes over the years, but never one with this shape.
The beautiful linen and lace headdress has retained its original finish.
In good condition considering its age.
