Monumental oil on canvas depicting a full-length portrait of a Bull Mastiff in front of its kennel. This canvas is signed and dated Joseph Faverot 1890 in the lower right corner. According to the inscription on the front of its kennel, this dog's name is "Duck." Its substantial molded oak frame accentuates the painting's presence and robustness. Dimensions with frame: 180cm high, 148cm wide. Dimensions without frame: 147cm high, 114cm wide. Joseph Faverot (1862-1918) was a French painter. This Montmartre artist, known for painting clowns and circus scenes, also produced animal subjects such as dogs, chickens, etc. One of his paintings of chickens, of the same size as the one we are offering, was sold at auction in Lyon in 2019.
