Chiseled bronze, decorated with two chimeras. Patina from use - 18th century. No. 2. Probably Rajasthan (Northwest India): the decoration depicts facing mythical birds, derived from late Mughal vocabulary. Openwork and highly textured: scales, punched plumage. These pieces were often linked to colonial trade; they are referred to as "Anglo-Indian" furniture. In this instance, undoubtedly a chest. Mounted in the 1970s.
