The Arc De Triomphe De l'étoile In Paris - Architectural Project - Engraving From The Empire Period
Engraving depicting an architectural design for the Arc de Triomphe by Jean-François-Thérèse Chalgrin in Paris, now the Place de l'Étoile. The engraving is presented in a period Empire-style frame of giltwood. Empire period, circa 1810-1814. This iconic monument, whose construction began under the Empire in 1806, was interrupted by the fall of the Empire in 1814, resumed in 1830, and completed in 1836. The designs were modified according to the various stops and restarts of work, punctuated by political changes. This initial project by Chalgrin, whose general outlines are already those of the final monument, presents variations that were never implemented, such as the motto "To Napoleon and Marie Louise, the city of Paris" and the sculpted groups, which are the earlier version of the current one (The Resistance of 1814 and The Peace of 1815). An interesting and rare historical memento, beautifully framed. Dimensions: 25.3 x 19.5 cm
