Large and beautiful fireplace clock set in bronze and Sienna yellow marble executed soon XIXth Century. The clock rests on 4 large claw feet and is framed by a large pair of candle sticks in patined bronze and Sienna yellow marble. Its wire movement is signed by the watchmaker "Moinet Ainé " who worked with BRÉGUET. The bronze statue of the Roman General Caius Marius exiled'and sat down , helmet on feet ,on the ruins of Carthage Overcomes this nice clock . This scène is derived from biographies written by Plutarch. Later, in Restauration period, this scene was repeated in allusion to Napoléon in exile. There is another model of the same subject in the " Garde meuble National " as well a very similar model but a Little larger also executed in patined bronze and Sienna marble which is part of the Royal Dutch collection at the Het Loo Palace. Very nice execution with finely chiseled bronzes. Good general condition .Lack of a Binet and snacks on the marble of one of the two candles sticks.
