Late 18th Century: Imperial Eagle, Wings Outstretched, Gilded Carved Wooden Wall Sconce
Artist: Non Signée
A rare and beautiful wall-mounted console in finely gilded carved wood; expressive and bearing the symbol of the Emperor of Austria (head facing left). The eagle, with outstretched wings, supports atop its head a platform that flares out into a canopy on either side; it rests on a base in the shape of a blooming corolla, worked with fluting and beading. Remarkably crafted, this wall-mounted piece is ideal for displaying a beautiful object. This shelf has everything to charm with its ornamentation and the richness of its carving; the generous, curved top allows for the placement of an object. Airy and finely executed, this choice decorative element has everything to please, a useful and airy piece of great elegance in the fine tradition of 18th-century gilded woodwork. A symbol of power and pride, later adopted by the invader Napoleon, who turned its head... For the connoisseur and discerning collector.
