A rare and beautiful genre scene from the second half of the 19th century by A. Rueff, who faithfully reproduced, with the same talent, Auguste Meissonnier’s work “Une Chanson” from around 1870. Renaissance and historical scenes were highly prized in the mid-19th century, pairing divinely with Louis XIII-style reproduction furniture. The beautiful original key-frame, made of richly ornamented wood with stucco and gilding, frames this piece divinely well.
