Hair Comb / Diadem, Empire Period, Coral Glass Beads / Gold, 1820, Garnets
An antique and elegant diadem or hair comb, circa 1820. This charming piece features a finely crafted pompon mount, formed by a double arch with openwork and filigree decoration characteristic of costume jewelry from the first third of the 19th century. The upper section is punctuated by a frieze of glass beads mounted on small stems, alternating between a deep red reminiscent of coral and gilt beads whose appearance evokes the brilliance of gold. A line of small red glass beads underlines the main arch. With its slightly arched shape, this diadem naturally conforms to the top of the head and corresponds to the ornaments intended to accompany the antique-style hairstyles very fashionable during the Empire and Restoration periods. In fine condition.
