Natural Bisque Bust, Queen Of France, Marie Antoinette, 19th Century, Sèvres By Wengmüller
A biscuit porcelain bust depicting Queen Marie Antoinette, a model traditionally known as the “Wengmüller bust.” The queen is depicted with an elaborate, up-styled, and abundantly curled hairstyle, adorned with ribbons and pearls, in the style of late 18th-century court portraits.
The face is rendered with delicacy, while the hairstyle and the drapery of the garment are rendered with particularly detailed modeling. The bust rests on a rectangular pedestal integrated into the composition.
A 19th-century piece made of white bisque porcelain, based on the famous iconographic type of Marie Antoinette associated with Wengmüller.
An incised mark is visible on the reverse of the drapery.
