Franco Albini - Franca Helg - “pannocchia” Bowl Model Created In 1971, Italy

Artist: Franco Albini - Franca Helg
A substantial sculptural bowl in 925 sterling silver, featuring the characteristic surface of the Pannocchia pattern, composed of a multitude of rounded reliefs evoking the kernels of an ear of corn, from which the object derives its name.
This piece perfectly illustrates the dialogue between the architectural purity of form and the tactile richness of the material, an approach emblematic of Albini and Helg's work. The hemispherical silhouette, of great formal restraint, contrasts with the vibrant texture of the hammered decoration, creating a particularly expressive optical and material effect.
Produced by the renowned Roman firm San Lorenzo, the bowl belongs to a series of contemporary silver objects created in collaboration with several leading architects of Italian design from the second half of the 20th century.
Due to its significant dimensions and substantial weight of sterling silver, this example constitutes a particularly spectacular version of the Pannocchia pattern. The works resulting from the collaboration between Albini, Helg and San Lorenzo are sought after today for their remarkable synthesis of Italian modernist design and excellence in goldsmithing, placing these pieces at the boundary between functional object and domestic sculpture.
