Victor Coste (1844-1923) Agde, Fishermen In Their Boat

A palette of pleasing and soft colors, a light texture, and an intimate, ethereal atmosphere characterize this work, which will appeal to those nostalgic for a time when, despite the arduous nature of the work, a peaceful, timeless atmosphere prevailed—no rush, no hustle and bustle, only the gentle lapping of a calm sea at the start of the day.
The work, in very good condition is presented in a simple gilt frame measuring 40.5 cm by 56 cm, while the canvas itself measures 29.5 cm by 46 cm.
It depicts a group of fishermen aboard their boat, mending or untangling their nets while chatting in the tranquil harbor of Agde.
In excellent condition, the work is signed in the lower left corner.

A student of Dominique Magaud and Johanny Rave at the École des Beaux-Arts in Marseille, and later of François Barry, he participated in the Paris Salon from 1883 to 1896.
He also exhibited at the 1906 Colonial Exposition, specializing in seascapes.
His works are now kept at the Palais Longchamp, the Musée Granet in Aix en Provence, the Fondation Regards de Provence and the Musée de Cassis.
