Eugène Leliepvre was born in Montreuil-sur-Mer in 1908 (Pas-de-Calais) and died on November 17, 2013, at the age of 105. He is best known as a painter of cavalry and elegant women. This latter aspect of his work occupied a significant portion of his output from 1940 to 1960. Some of these elegant women are reminiscent of those by Gabriel Domergue. He is also renowned for his hunting scenes and animal paintings. For forty years, he contributed to the magazine *Le Chasseur Français*, and for twenty-three consecutive years, he illustrated the Manufrance calendar. With the help of his wife, he also worked as a model maker and figure painter for the Musée de la Marine in Paris. He was appointed official painter of the armed forces in 1951. He was made a Knight of the Legion of Honour in 1998.
