Large Warwick Vase Neoclassical Bronze Vase, 19th Century

A decorative vase inspired by the famous Warwick Vase, executed in bronze and richly ornamented in the Neoclassical style. The body is decorated with finely modeled masks in high relief, alternating with classical motifs. The powerful twisted handles evoke vine tendrils and allude to the Bacchic iconography traditionally associated with ancient wine kraters. The original Warwick Vase is a monumental Roman marble krater dating from the 2nd century AD, discovered in the 18th century near Tivoli and made famous by the collection at Warwick Castle in England. Its spectacular form quickly became an emblem of Neoclassical taste and inspired numerous interpretations in bronze, marble, and other decorative materials during the 18th and 19th centuries. This example is distinguished by the vigor of its modeling, the expressiveness of the masks, and the harmonious balance between the bowl, the handles, and the foot. The base bears an engraved inscription "Gift from Napoleon – 1810," referencing the Napoleonic era and adding a historical dimension to the object.
