Genoese Stipo In Walnut And Elm Burl – Cabinet With 36 Statues, Circa 1600
This Italian cabinet, a testament to the virtuosity of Genoese cabinetmakers of the late Renaissance (late 16th - early 17th century), boasts a miniature palace façade. The façade, punctuated by the contrast of walnut and elm burl, is adorned with 36 statues sculpted in the round and in bas-relief: atlantes, caryatids, putti, and warriors.
The cabinet opens with eight drawers and three doors (secured by their original locks and keys). The central door reveals a small compartment containing two statuettes, each with two small drawers. Several secret compartments are also present, the mechanisms of which are intentionally left for the future owner to discover.
This piece displays a deep and authentic period patina. Ideal for placing on a chest of drawers, console table, or other table to bring a touch of the High Renaissance to your interior.
