Neoclassical Terracotta Obelisk, Circa 1930-1940, In The Profile Of A Roman Emperor
Terracotta obelisk with marbled paper and mahogany base, France, Neoclassical work circa 1930-1940. Height: 43 cm. An imperial obelisk. Uncommon, this obelisk is made entirely of terracotta and partially covered with marbled paper. The square base features two medallion portraits of a Roman emperor in profile, in the classical style. The obelisk rests on a mahogany base. It is very likely the work of a decorator from the 1930s-1940s, quite unique as it must have been commissioned by a client. Condition report: very good overall condition, some minor lifting of the paper.
