Jean Jaffeux Abstract Decorative Bowl, Ceramic, Lava Stone, 20th Century, Circa 1950/60 (j. Lurçat)

Artist: Jean Jaffeux
A tall, beautifully crafted abstract bowl signed by Jean Jaffeux, featuring lava stone enameling in the style of contemporary French ceramists such as Jean Lurçat and Paul Corriger. The base is decorated with plant motifs. The enamels are blue, white, and brown. Jean Jaffeux, an artist from the Auvergne region, came from a family of artists and settled in the Puy-de-Dôme. He was a ceramicist specializing in lava stone enameling and a decorative painter. He met Jean Lurçat and also Lurçat's friend Paul Corriger, who had been working with lava stone since the 1950s. His enameling work on lava stone is decorative and exceptionally well-executed, as he learned the technique from Jean Borel (1886-1990). The piece is in very good condition. Dimensions: 23 cm in diameter, 9 cm in height.
