Jean Jaffeux Cup With Bulls Ceramic 20th Century Circa 1950/60 (j. Lurçat)
Artist: Jean Jaffeux
Bowl with bulls, white horns. Red, brown, white, and blue enamels. Circa 1950-60. Signed Jean Jaffeux, in the style of Jean Lurçat. An artist from the Auvergne region, from a family of artists, and based in the Puy-de-Dôme, Jean Jaffeux was a ceramicist specializing in lava enameling and a decorative painter. He met Jean Lurçat and also Lurçat's friend Paul Corriger, who had been working with lava stone since the 1950s. His enameling work on lava stone is decorative and extremely well-executed, as he learned from Jean Borel (1886-1990). Camargue motif of a bull in motion, with white horns: a very beautiful stylization in the vein of French ceramicists of the 1950s. Dimensions: 24.5 cm in diameter, 6.5 cm in height.
