Large Louis XVI Style Lacquered Bergère Armchair, Gondola Back, Cushion Seat, Early 19th Century
A beautiful and large Louis XVI style bergère armchair in lacquered wood, dating from the first half of the 19th century. It rests on four tapered, fluted, and reeded legs. The entire seat rail, armrests and armrest supports, as well as the backrest, are molded and carved with a ribboned frieze. The gondola-shaped backrest is very wide and enveloping, providing great comfort. The seat is relatively recent and very comfortable; it is in very good condition. However, the upholstery fabric has some stains and rings, as well as a slight scratch on the back of the backrest. The frame of the chair is entirely lacquered in a color close to verdigris, a shade widely used in the 19th century. This color is original and consequently shows signs of wear, revealing the wood in places. It is covered with a wax finish, giving a limed effect and considerable charm to the piece. Dimensions: Height to backrest: 93 cm Seat height: 42 cm; Width: 71 cm; Seat depth: 60 cm; Total depth: 78 cm. For shipping costs, please contact us.
