Pair of Louis XVI bergère armchairs, stamped Antoine Gailliard.
Pair of carved, molded, and gilded wood bergère armchairs with medallion-shaped backs and decoration of foliate and ribboned friezes punctuated with small flowers, also present on the connecting blocks. The slightly recessed armrest supports are finished with scrolls. They rest on tapered legs, all four with fluted and reeded edges. Stamped Gailliard, received as a Master in Paris in 1781.

Antoine Gailliard was an excellent chair maker who produced only during the reign of Louis XVI. Known for his consistently graceful work, he possessed a gift for lightness and finesse, and knew how to adorn the chairs produced in his workshop with delicate carvings.
