A beautiful spelter statue with a brown-gold patina, titled on the base "The Olive Tree" and "The Branch of Labor," signed E. Picault. It rests on a green marble plinth. This fine sculpture depicts a bare-chested worker with prominent muscles, brandishing a branch in his right hand and holding a hammer in the other. Note the very slight wear on the back of the arm holding the hammer (see photo). André Emile Louis Picault, born August 24, 1933, in Paris, and died in Paris at the age of 89, was a French sculptor and student of the painter Henri Royer. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1963 to 1914. His work primarily consists of allegorical and patriotic subjects, figures of warriors, and mythological heroes. He was one of the most prolific figures of the French Neo-Baroque sculpture movement.
