Gouache on mounted paper, dated 1900, depicting a cow and its herder. A charming naturalist subject, signed lower right "Jacques Simon." Jacques Simon (1875-1965) was a French painter and illustrator. He studied under William Bouguereau and Gabriel Ferrier at the Académie Julian and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He illustrated works by Eugène Fromentin, Roger Vercel, Georges Duhamel, Roland Dorgelès, and Léo Larguier. A recipient of numerous medals at the Salons, he painted landscapes, seascapes, the Normandy countryside, and Orientalist works. The painting is in good overall condition, with some wear and swelling of the paper. It is framed in wood. Dimensions without frame: 64 x 49 cm
