Pair Of Egyptian-style Bronze Torchères By Maison Jansen, Circa 1970
Artist: Maison Jansen
A pair of Egyptian-inspired floor lamps by Maison Jansen, circa 1970, depicting a man and a woman in a hieratic pose, their arms raised, each supporting a light socket. The figures rest on molded octagonal bases. The bodies are made of cast iron, partially enhanced with bronze elements and gilt finishes. The headdresses and loincloths are directly inspired by the iconography of ancient Egypt, in a neo-Egyptian style characteristic of some of Maison Jansen's decorative pieces from the 1970s. The volumes are powerful, the sculptural presence assertive, and the lighting reinforces the monumental verticality of the figures. This model reflects the tradition of spectacular and theatrical interiors popular in the 1970s
