Johann Heinrich Naumann was probably from Hähmingen, near Freiburg. He was appointed master craftsman in Dresden on February 7, 1730. By 1738, he had obtained the title of court clockmaker. According to the Dresden directory of 1738, he resided in his house on the "Kleine Schießgasse" (Small Shooting Alley).
