Robin Clock In Mahogany About 1795
Artist: Robin
Mahogany clock by Robin about 1795
Robert Robin was admitted to the rank of master in Paris in 1767. As much an engineer as an artist, he was quickly noticed by the royal administration and gained the favor of Louis XVI. He accumulated titles and positions. By 1785, he was housed at the Galeries du Louvre. Shortly after, Robin was appointed Clockmaker-in-Waiting to the Queen. He surrounded himself with the most renowned craftsmen of their time, especially Joseph Coteau for the enameling of the dials. After him, his widow and sons continued his work. The greatest international museums preserve his creations.
