Chalice And Paten - Circa 1830
A silver and vermeil cup by the Lyon silversmith F. Favier, active from 1809 to 1838, bearing the Minerva hallmark. The cup is decorated with a silver appliqué depicting allegories of the three theological virtues. The baluster stem is engraved with ears of wheat and vine leaves, Eucharistic symbols of bread and wine, and a reed as a symbol of the Passion. The foot is decorated in repoussé with a Crucifixion, Christ in Chains, and Saint Peter repenting before a rooster.
Dimensions: 28.5 cm in diameter, weight: 428 grams. In fine condition. In its worn brown leather case.
Paten entirely in vermeil, also hallmarked, engraved with the monogram IHS. Minor chips on the rim.
