Large And Rare Cabinet With Theater And Trompe l'Oeil, 17th Century. Attributed To Thomas Hache
A very beautiful and large 17th-century cabinet.
Rare due to its original base, this cabinet with its multiple drawers is also very interesting for its design.
It opens with two large marquetry doors featuring geometric patterns in burr walnut and boxwood stringing.
Inside, it reveals 12 drawers and two doors inlaid with bone, presenting a perspective marquetry of trompe-l'oeil cubes, a checkerboard, a compass rose, geometric patterns, mirrors, and a castle painted on a panel.
This miniature theater is highly decorative, and the central painting reveals secret red drawers.
The original locks are finely chiseled with exceptional skill.
It rests on its original base inlaid with bone and ebony, which opens with two drawers in burr walnut and boxwood stringing.
Its twisted base in walnut and black-stained wood is connected by a stretcher shelf in walnut veneer and boxwood stringing, and rests on eight ball feet characteristic of Louis XIV furniture.
The interior fittings of the fir drawers, the overall geometric design, and the woods used all point to the work of Thomas Hache (November 28, 1664 – May 13, 1747).
The multitude of drawers and the simulated drawers make it a very practical piece of furniture.
