A Pair Of Spelter And Biscuit Porcelain Sculptures, Late 19th Century
François Clémencin (1878–1950) – Pair of Gilt Spelter and Biscuit Sculptures “Young Street Vendors”
Circa 1920
An elegant pair of sculptures in the spirit of the celebrated chryselephantine creations of the early 20th century, depicting two charming young street vendors: a flower seller and an antique dealer.
Executed in finely gilded spelter and biscuit porcelain, these figures combine the warmth of gilded metal with the delicate texture and refinement of biscuit. The quality of the modeling, subtle gilding, and attention to detail beautifully capture scenes of everyday life with both realism and poetic charm.
Each figure stands upon a circular base of pink breccia marble, enhancing the luxurious character of the ensemble and providing an elegant contrast to the sculptural materials.
The sculptures are signed “CIN CLEM”, and bear the stamp “Fabriqué en France” as well as the foundry mark.
