Small gilt bronze and purple enamel jewelry box, XIXᵉ century
Elegant cylindrical-shaped box in finely chased and gilt bronze, featuring a delicate openwork gallery with geometric decoration of great finesse. The lid is adorned at its center with a painted miniature depicting an elegant lady dressed in costume and coiffed in the manner of the reign of Louis XV, delicately executed in the taste of XVIIIᵉ century gallant portraits.
This painting is set off by a wide guilloché violet enamel surround, whose refined hue harmonizes perfectly with the warm glow of the gilded bronze. The circumference of the lid is enriched with a frieze of finely chased scrolls and floral motifs, testifying to the high quality of the goldsmith's work.
The interior reveals a particularly meticulous layout including a mirror on the reverse of the lid as well as a crystal lining, designed to hold powder, jewels or small precious objects. This luxurious interior contributes to the precious, refined character of this charming toilet box.
