A very rare Art Deco terracotta sculpture from around 1930 depicting rugby players in action, specifically "tackling." The sculpture is signed by Ernest Charles Diosi (1881-1937), whose death date is also recorded as 1959, and is signed on the edge of the base. Diosi was a sculptor renowned for his sporting subjects. The sculpture is in very good condition, with no restorations, and only a tiny chip on the tackler's hair. It has a beautiful patina from use. The back bears the maker's mark "Terracotta R. d'Arly Paris." Dimensions: length 40.5 cm, width 14.2 cm, height 28 cm
