French School Circa 1880, "young Woman With Two Lovers", Polychrome Glazed Terracotta
French school circa 1880, "Jeune femme avec deux amours"
Important polychrome glazed terracotta sculpture depicting a draped young woman surrounded by two loves in a scene of mythological and allegorical inspiration.
The naturalistic treatment of the figures, the richness of the drapery and the deep shades of the enameling bear witness to the French decorative taste of the late 19th century. The composition, full of movement and tenderness, rests on a finely-worked terrace with vegetal decoration.
The contrasts between the ivory tones of the skin tones, the deep blue of the drapery and the green shades of the base bring relief and elegance to the whole.
