"Large Terracotta Group Art Deco Period, Nude Man Signed Bargas, 1920, Strength"
Antique & large terracotta group dating from the 1920s. Work signed by the artist Henri Bargas. Subject depicting a naked man pushing a rock. Allegory of strength. Very beautiful work inspired by Greco-classical achievements. Work signed on the base. 51.5cm x 19cm x 32cm high. Perfect condition Henri Bargas (born in Paris at the very end of the 19th century, active in the 1920s–1930s) is a French sculptor representative of Art Deco. Trained under André Vermare, he collaborated with Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann and Édouard-Marcel Sandoz, studied fauna at the Jardin des Plantes, and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français. His works, mainly in terracotta — athletic male figures, stylized female nudes, animals — are inspired by ancient Greek art and the aesthetics of Bourdelle.
