Mons 1784, Louis XVI Coffee Pot, Evrard Maurice Joseph, Solid Silver
Artist: Maurice Joseph Evrard (1752-1830)
An imposing Louis XVI period tripod coffee pot in solid silver. It is the work of the Mons silversmith Evrard père, who became a master in Mons in 1778. During the last decade of the Ancien Régime and the French occupation, he was the most important silversmith in the city of Mons. He even had a contract with the imperial mint to help them obtain gold and silver. In 1808, he handed over his business to his son, Jean François, who is more or less the only Mons silversmith of the nineteenth century whose significant output still survives. The coffee pot is entirely decorated with all the decorative elements of the Louis XVI style. A rare feature: it still has its original handle in carved and blackened pear wood. It is in perfect condition and weighs 975 grams.
