"Liège 1784, Sterling Silver, Louis XVI Coffee Pot, Goldsmith Guillaume Dengis"
Sumptuous Liège coffee pot from the Louis XVI period in solid silver. In perfect condition. The principality of Liège was part of the Holy Roman Empire, unlike the rest of the Southern Netherlands. The influence of Augsburg and Nuremberg is visible in the production of Liège silverware. The coffee pot presented here is a fine example of Liège silverware that combines French influence, with the elegance of the Louis XVI line, and German influence, with the presence of the pedestal instead of the usual three feet. On the bottom are four very legible hallmarks. Master goldsmith hallmark GD for Guillaume Dengis (1734-1814), an excellent craftsman from Liège whose countless pieces are found in Belgian museums and in the church treasures of the ardent city. A hallmark representing the coat of arms of the reigning Prince Bishop of Velbruck, a hallmark with the year of his early reign surmounted by the double-headed eagle of the Holy Roman Empire and finally the date letter L for 1783-84.
