Jean Maurice Rothschild (1902-1988). Wrought Iron Coffee Table With Figures And Marble Top
Artist: Jean Maurice Rothschild ( 1902-1988 )
Coffee table designed by the designer and interior architect Jean Maurice Rothschild. Our table rests on a wrought iron tripod base with strongly flattened ends. This base supports three statues representing figures dressed in medieval-style clothing, supporting the tabletop like Atlantes. They are made with a material that perfectly imitates wood. The tabletop is white marble veined with black and encircled by a wide band of hammered wrought iron adorned with three rings. Jean Maurice Rothschild (1902-1988) was a French interior decorator and furniture designer. His most famous works are the furniture he created for the first-class smoking room and grill of the ocean liner Normandie and that made in 1937 for the Eiffel Tower restaurant in Paris. From 1917 to 1919, he studied at the École Boulle in Paris. In 1921, he worked for Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann. In 1932, he set up his workshop at 14 bis rue Marbeuf in Paris; some of his furniture, influenced by Ruhlmann, would be produced by Muro and Ducreuzet. In 1937, he created the furniture for the Eiffel Tower restaurant. In 1945 He began working as an interior designer, creating furniture commissioned by the national furniture department of the mint administration. He then produced furniture for the National Assembly and for the office of President Vincent Auriol at the Élysée Palace. Dimensions: diameter 70 cm, height 52.5 cm.
