A Two-panel Folding Screen With A Pair Of Deer
A Japanese two-panel folding screen painted on paper with applications of gold powder, depicting a pair of deer among wind-swept reeds. The work is signed Shūkei (Sōkei), a painter active in the Kanō school, bearing the honorary title Hōgen, conferred upon artists of high rank. Provenance: private U.S. collection, previously acquired from Naga Antiques (New York), as confirmed by the original label affixed to the reverse.
