An important pair of Empire three-light patinated and gilt bronze candelabra.
Attributed to Claude Galle (1759-1815).
Ovoid vase shape. The applied decoration features a winged Victory holding a torch in each hand. The light arms, in the form of acanthus leaf scrolls, terminate in stylized swan necks supporting a candle holder. The bases are adorned on the sides with masks of Bacchus, a crescent moon, and a star.
A pair of the same model is in the Hôtel de Beauharnais in Paris, now the residence of the German ambassador and formerly the home of Prince Eugène de Beauharnais, Napoleon Bonaparte's son-in-law.
