Basket Called "a Traforato" - Flanders / Netherlands - First Half Of The 18th Century

BASKET known as ‘A Traforato’
Flanders/Netherlands
First half of the 18th century
Glass
H: 13; W: 22 cm

Openwork glass basket with double handles.

With the spread of Venetian glassmaking expertise throughout modern Europe, everyday tableware was transformed into refined creations with elaborate shapes and delicate textures.
While the base of this Flemish basket was made by blowing, its sides were shaped by stretching and working strands of hot glass to produce an openwork structure reminiscent of lace.

This basket was undoubtedly intended to hold a sweet dessert.
