Exquisite Vellum Portfolio From 1774 "herbier De l'Aude", Silk Signature Of The Curé De Coursan 1774
Artist: Mr Abram
A truly fascinating herbarium, compiled in the Aude region by Mr. Abram, "Parish Priest of Coursan," bound in soft vellum with silk ribbons, it gathers together various plants from the Narbonne area, lovingly preserved and carefully labeled with silk ribbons. Dating from the end of Louis XV's reign, this charming portfolio on period laid paper catalogs the diverse plants of the Aude department in Occitanie, pressed with care to preserve their identity and colors. It also serves as a delightful glossary of the flora of the northern Narbonne region, its surrounding ponds and the Clape massif, and the lagoon strip, so rich in endives. The value of these carefully preserved herbaria lies in their insight into the evolution of so-called wild plants and the necessity of their preservation.
