Paris and Lyon, circa 1830

Large architectural clock. It rests on a quadrangular base with three tiers. The central body is framed by flying buttresses and small columns with pinnacles. The dial with “Gothic” numerals is an integral part of this idealized cathedral facade. These models were very successful, as evidenced by the many silver, green, and brown patina variants. Raingo signed a number of them, which could possibly indicate that he produced the bronze elements himself...

Historicism
The publication of Jules Michelet's collections during the Restoration and the creation of a “National Novel” to lend credibility to the regime in power, as well as the artistic emulation surrounding the writer Walter Scott and the painter Fleury-Richard, created a veritable “Neo-Gothic” or “Gothic Revival” artistic vogue.
