"Maffrash Karabag Caucasus. Circa 1850. 103 X 50 Cm"
This piece is extraordinary; it is certainly the most beautiful Maffrash fragment in our entire collection. Extraordinary in more ways than one. The weaving is exquisite. It's a Sumak technique, wool on wool, of extreme fineness and watchmaker-like precision. The motifs seem sculpted from the material itself. It's prodigious. The vegetal hues are dense and saturated. A true delight, the epitome of beauty, the kind that moves you. Indigo blue in three different tones. Carmine red of remarkable depth. Pale pink in small touches. Ecru. The whole is in perfect harmony. Finally, the piece is intact, in near-miraculous, impeccable condition. Brilliance, luminosity, freshness—it has it all. It's a museum piece. Circa 1850 or earlier. Dimensions: 103 x 50 cm. Laurent Beauty of Kilims
