"Pair Of Gilt Bronze Candelabra - Empire Period - Italy/denmark - 19th Century"
Pair of gilt bronze candelabra - Empire period - Italy/Denmark. Pair of Empire period candelabra with jester heads. Patinated bronze and mercury-gilt bronze. Probably Italy or Denmark, early 19th century. Important and elegant pair of finely chased bronze candelabra, combining a deep brown patinated bronze with rich mercury gilt bronze. Each candelabrum rests on a square base decorated with stylized palmettes and foliage, surmounted by a cylindrical pedestal adorned with delicately engraved friezes. A finely guilloché gilt sphere supports a draped female figure in antique style, rendered in patinated bronze, depicted in a slight pose, holding above her head a central medallion tied with ribbons. From this medallion rise three sinuous arms adorned with stylized foliage and flowers, each terminating in a jester's head with a headdress, supporting gilt-bronze candle holders and sockets decorated with water leaves and floral motifs. The whole presents a refined contrast between the dark patina and the bright gilding, typical of the Empire style. One arm has been restored
