Imperial Tula (tula) Steel Jewelry Box With Inlay - Russia - Late 19th Century
Artist: Svechnikov
A Russian damascened steel casket, attributed to the Tula workshops (late 19th century) by Svechnikov. The metalwork features a lavish decoration of rose garlands, foliage, scrolls, and finely ornamented circular medallions, executed in silver and brass inlay using the traditional techniques of Tula artisans. The surfaces are meticulously hatched, textured, and polished, attesting to the virtuosity of the workshops, which also produced luxury weapons. The interior is lined with its original red velvet; the lid has a glazed compartment. The casket rests on four steel feet and comes with its key.
