Creation resulting from the French religious craft of the 19th century, this devotional statue represents the crowned Virgin Mary, arms outstretched towards the believers. These statues of devotions were sold by the parishioners to provide for the church, for the pilgrims visiting.
She symbolizes the merciful Virgin who welcomes the members of the faith to join her in her purity and obedience to the faith. This rare representation is that of 'Our Lady of Africa', referring to the basilica of the same name located in Algiers, Algeria, built in 1858.
The beauty of this craft is found in a miniaturized and qualitative version of the Virgin crowned by the heavens welcoming believers, very realistic and full of details. The most spectacular being the pedestal where it is located, in the flamboyant neo-Gothic style, mixing square and circular geometry, with intersecting arches.
