"Ciborium, Silver-gilt Bowl, Minerva Head, Gilt Bronze Base, Cross And Foliage, 19th Century"
A gilt and silvered bronze (or other metal) ciborium, chased with vegetal garlands on the foot, bowl, and lid; the bowl is gilt silver (hallmarked with the Minerva mark and the silversmith's mark), dating from the late 19th to early 20th centuries. This ciborium is in its original condition. The bowl is silver (disassembles, net weight 47 grams). Hallmarked (see photos): the silversmith's mark is worn, but it is very likely the work of the silversmith Henri Nesme (1856-1935), as this model of ciborium corresponds exactly to model no. 70 in the factory's catalog no. 10. Please note: there is soiling and wear on the bronze, traces of oxidation, some dents and scratches, and general signs of age. Please examine the photos carefully. Diameter: bowl 6.9 cm; Diameter at the base: 9.2 cm; Height: 19.7 cm; Weight: net 47 grams. Reference: D50 433. All photos are available at: www.antiques-delaval.com
